5 Everyday Habits for a Healthier Smile
10 October 2026 · Dental Valley Kajang

Most of the dental problems we treat could have been prevented. These five habits protect your teeth more than any single treatment can.
1. Brush twice a day, gently
Brush for two minutes, twice a day, with a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Scrubbing hard doesn't clean any better. It wears down your enamel and gums, so let the bristles do the work.
2. Floss every day
Your toothbrush misses roughly a third of each tooth's surface. Floss or interdental brushes reach the plaque between your teeth, which is where most cavities and gum problems start.
3. Cut down on sugary drinks between meals
How often you have sugar matters as much as how much. Sipping sweet drinks through the day keeps your teeth in acid for hours. Have them with meals instead, and rinse with water afterwards.
4. Pay attention to small signs
Bleeding gums, sensitivity to cold and a tooth that aches at night are all early warnings. Treated early, most of these problems are quick and affordable to fix. Left alone, they can turn into root canals and extractions.
5. See your dentist every six months
A check-up and professional cleaning twice a year catches problems while they're small and stops stains and tartar from building up.
