Veneers

Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They can change the colour, shape, size or length of teeth and close small gaps, so your smile looks more even.

We aim for veneers that look like your own teeth: a shade that suits your face, natural translucency at the edges, and shapes that fit your smile, rather than uniform, overly white teeth.

Who veneers are for

Veneers suit people whose front teeth are:

• Stained or discoloured in a way whitening can't fix
• Chipped, worn or uneven in length
• Slightly crooked or spaced, when straightening isn't wanted

They aren't the right first step for everyone. If a simpler option such as whitening or Invisalign would give you the result with less change to your teeth, we'll tell you.

Types of veneers

There are two main types. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental lab and resist staining well. Composite veneers are built up directly on the tooth with tooth-coloured resin and are easier to repair. Which suits a patient depends on their teeth and what they want to change.

2. We plan the shape and shade with you, so you know what to expect before any work begins.
3. The front surface of each tooth is prepared and the veneers are bonded in place.

What patients ask us

Will they look fake? Natural-looking results are the aim. We match the shade, shape and surface texture to your face and your other teeth.

How long do veneers last? With good care, porcelain veneers often last 10 years or more, and composite veneers usually 5 to 7 years.

Do veneers damage my teeth? A thin layer of the tooth's outer surface is usually removed so the veneer sits flush, and that can't be undone. How much depends on your case, and we'll explain it before we start.
